According to police statistics, in single-family houses and flats located on the ground floor or first floor burglars normally enter through the windows or balcony doors. You can protect your home against robbery by choosing safe, anti-burglary windows produced in line with strict standards. Forced entry through such windows requires substantial effort and is often simply impossible.

The windows that ensures protection

If you know the most frequently employed methods of forcing through, among them: entering through an open or tilted window, force-opening, shifting the fittings or glass breaking, it is easier to prevent burglary through the windows. Modern anti-burglary windows, though, can withstand the burglars’ tricks. Upon the choice of the window, you need to remember that your window requires technical solutions to provide due protection. Those include handles, special fittings and glass panels.

Key lock handle

Protect Plus safe anti-burglary windows manufactured by OKNOPLAST are equipped with a special key lock handle with the strength of 100 Nm, and an anti-drill plate mounted in the fitting. The above mentioned measures guarantee sufficient protection against the most often used burglar methods, i.e.

  • turning the handle from the tilted position (the so-called “string method”),
  • shifting the fittings using a rod or screwdriver,
  • drilling through the handle fastening bolts.
  • There is one more important function the key lock handle has: it not only protects your home against thieves, but also substantially decreases the risk of the window being opened by children.

Fittings

The safety properties of Protect Plus windows are the result of innovative Multi-Matic fittings, which are provided with mushroom striker plates (Safety Plus) screwed to the steel reinforcement and special intelligent security cams. These cams considerably hamper forced opening of the window by engaging the striker plates. The cams installed in the Protect Plus window are placed along the entire window perimeter, in precisely specified and tested points. This makes anti-burglary protection even more efficient.

In case of particular exposure to burglary, it is worth investing in additional security though the installation of extra mushroom striker plates in the windows in line with the applicable European Standard, which classifies the window joinery according to burglary resistance class RC:

RC1 resistance class

  • Protection against burglary through kicking, hitting and pulling out.
  • Additional protection of each window corner .
  • Window handle with key lock or button.

RC2 resistance class

  • Increased protection against burglary with the use of force (as in RC1 windows), and tools such as screwdrivers, pliers or crowbars.
  • Additional protection of each window corner.
  • Appropriate spacing of the mushroom striker plates.
  • Key lock handle and P4 laminated glass unit consisting of two panels and four anti-burglary films, and an anti-pulling out mechanism.

Glass panels

Special glass panels are of utmost importance for anti-burglary windows. There is a double-reinforced glass panel of four layers of PVB anti-burglary film used in our Protect Plus windows . More glass and protective film ensures more difficulty when trying to break the window. The glass panel applied in Protect Plus windows is able to resist several impacts of a 4-kg steel ball. It is worth noted that even in case the glass breaks, it does not shatter as the protective film holds the panel together. Thanks to this feature, the window is not only an efficient barrier against the burglar, but also the perfect solution for children’s rooms, where the safety of the youngest inhabitants is a must.

Reed contacts

Together with the enhanced burglary resistance of the windows, you can additionally install an alarm system, e.g. with Maco Tronic reed contacts that OKNOPLAST has in its offer. The reed contacts are connected to the monitoring system and trigger the alarm in case they detect a handle movement or a shifting of the fittings. Their work is independent of the position of the window sash (tilted or opened). Locking and unlocking of the window is monitored by the system, too. The Maco Tronic fitting consists of a contact element and a moving element installed on the sash with an integrated magnetic switch. An alert message is sent to a security guard company when the striker plate disconnects from the magnetic switch.

Thanks to their small size, the reed contacts are difficult to locate and bypass. In addition, there is no risk of unintentional triggering of the alarm, e.g. by one of the inhabitants because the system activates only when the window is locked and the alarm system is armed.

Thanks to anti-burglary windows, your home’s safety will significantly increase. It is worth noted that the window itself ensures no burglary resistance. It has to be appropriately installed, in strict accordance with installation procedures, and confirmed by a proper certificate to provide protection. Only a duly installed window may be called burglary-resistant.
