On 9 December 2015 in the ICE Krakow Congress Centre, a screening took place of an important environmental film, Trashed. The film, which was shown to Krakow pupils, illustrated the everyday aspects of sustainable development. The screening of the globally acclaimed documentary starring Jeremy Irons is a part of the “Education is a Window to the World” project, implemented by The Bridge Foundation in strategic partnership with OKNOPLAST Group. The Goodwill Ambassador of the project is Małgorzata Kożuchowska.

Trashed is one of those films that can really persuade people to be more environmentally conscious. Academy Award® winner Jeremy Irons encourages the audience to think and to ask where the waste that we produce every day actually ends up. Travelling to different parts of the world, Irons shows how many unique places and landscapes have been destroyed by waste, opening the audience’s eyes to the issue of waste toxicity and its impact on our lives.

The screening in ICE Krakow was attended by ca. 1,800 participants; in particular the guests of honour and pupils from middle schools from Krakow and outlying towns that turned up in force with their teachers and guardians.

On the “Education is a Window to the World” project

“Education is a Window to the World” is an international, one-year educational project implemented in the KOSTKA middle school in Krakow. The aim of the project is to show to young people the practical dimension of sustainable development, and to familiarise them with various aspects of the issue. One of these aspects is the waste segregation issue, brought to the attendees of the evening in ICE Krakow in the emotionally appealing form of a documentary.

“The project shows how to present in educational programmes the economic and social challenges of our times in terms of energy, climate change, emissions, and water and soil pollution. No country can face those challenges alone, and the only way to success is joining forces,” explains Margo Koniuszewski, Chairwoman of The Bridge Foundation.

Mikołaj Placek, Chairman of OKNOPLAST, who also spoke during the event, emphasises: “Due to the global challenges of our times concerning demography, energy, climate change, pollution of air, water and soil, the economy of sustainable development is no longer just an option, it is a necessity. In OKNOPLAST Group, we make energy-saving windows that are the key element in improving the energy efficiency of buildings, both in Poland and abroad. We are implementing the goals on emission reductions and the optimisation of the consumption and recovery of resources. We believe in educating our employees.

The partners of the project include leading international businesses and institutions, including but not limited to OKNOPLAST Group, which provide, inter alia, expert consultations on the state-of-the-art technologies applied in energy-saving PVC windows and doors.

“We are happy to be able to open this window together with The Bridge Foundation for young people, in a unique, appealing form that they will remember and that will make them think. Sustainable development is the idea behind every stage of our activities. We encourage everyone to watch Trashed and to receive the environmental inspiration that this documentary brings to everyone,” says Magdalena Cedro-Czubaj, Director of Marketing at OKNOPLAST.
